Katie grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts in South Hamilton, and developed her love for animals while playing with her childhood pets and working with livestock on small local farms. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Pitzer College in Claremont, California, and then went on to University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine where she was a food animal major. During school, Katie worked at her University’s sow farm and developed a strong interest in swine medicine and animal welfare. She also spent two summers working with livestock in Cap Haitien, Haiti. Following vet school, Katie worked at the Alvarado Veterinary Clinic in Alvarado, Texas working with all species of animals, and was able to spend a lot of time performing small animal soft tissue surgeries and working the cattle chute. Although she loves to work with all species, Katie particularly enjoys small ruminants, backyard poultry, pigs and beef cows.
In her free time, Katie loves to spend time with her pets, family and friends, and get outdoors to go to the beach, run, garden, and rollerblade.
