Your cat’s breed, size, genetics and lifestyle play a major role in their aging process. With proper care and attention, your senior cat can live many full and happy years. Just like humans as we age, senior cats become less mobile and more prone to disease and aging conditions.
- Hearing, vision loss
- Dementia
- Arthritis, joint problems
- Cancer

- Gum disease
- Diabetes, kidney or liver disease and thyroid problems

Senior Cat Care Requirements
Senior cats have different care requirements than kittens and adult cats. Give your senior cat lots of attention and accommodate any special needs they may have in addition to good habits and regular exams.
- Proper nutrition (discuss supplements with your veterinarian)
- Regular exercise
- Annual/semi-annual examination (blood, urine, fecal testing, vaccines)
- Parasite prevention
- Maintain oral health
- Special accommodations
As with adult cat care, be observant for any changes in your cat’s alertness, digestion, skin and coat, weight, hygiene, and daily habits, and consult us if you have any concerns.
